Rose as an ornamental plant with people for over five thousand years. It was first cultivated in Persia and China, and carefully grown in Japan. The ancient Greeks appreciated it much, much later. So the famous poetess Sappho, singing a bouquet of roses, was the first to call her “the queen of flowers”. The merit of the Greek philosopher and botanist Theophastos is that he not only appreciated the beauty of this amazing plant, but also made a detailed description of it, formulated the first complete classification of wild and garden analogues. Briefly about the classification of roses
The basis for the modern classification of roses is their decorative and biological characteristics, and not their origin, because most cultivated varieties in their morphological characteristics are not similar to any of the existing natural species. Developed by the American Rose Society (ARS) and adopted by the World Federation of these societies WFRS, this classification implies only 3 main groups of roses:
modern garden;
wild;
old.
Accordingly, each of these groups means a plurality of subgroups.
Wild
For the name of this group, the concepts of “species roses”, “WildRoses”, “orSpecies” are also used. The group unites various types of rose hips and their cultivators. As a rule, such red roses are distinguished by the natural appearance of the bush, very abundant, but one-time flowering.
Old garden roses
The English name for this subgroup is "Old Garden Roses". It includes varieties of roses cultivated before 1867, i.e. before the appearance of hybrid tea analogs. Moreover, only those varieties that have remained unchanged to this day are meant. Like wild varieties, representatives of the "Old Gardens" also differ in one-time abundant flowering. In addition, they all have a characteristic, pleasant and recognizable aroma that turns each bouquet of roses into an exquisite gift.
Modern garden roses
The English name for this subgroup is Modern Roses. It includes the varieties that entered the culture after the analogue of La France (hybrid tea rose in 1867 "year of birth"). This date is considered a turning point for the world of rose breeding. The revolutionary nature of La France manifested itself primarily in the lush re-bloom. It was by crossing it with other roses that breeders received a huge number of modern varieties with an incredible color palette, different shapes of buds. Further, a brief description of the most numerous groups and the most popular varieties of modern garden roses.
Hybrid tea
Modern hybrid tea roses are represented by more than 30 thousand garden varieties. It is these varieties that are cultivated today for cutting and making gorgeous bouquets of roses. All of them are distinguished by the highest quality of buds, true flowering continuity. At the same time, hybrid tea varieties differ in:
the strength of the growth of the bushes;
the height of the bushes;
the form of bushes (compact, spreading);
color of buds (one-color, two-color, multi-color);
the texture of the petals (whole-edged wavy, whole-edged bent: triangular, with sharp corners; bent entirely outward; jagged);
the shape of the buds (conical / goblet, cupped, spherical, rosette, square, flat);
the scent of flowers.
The latter can repeat the scent of a classic damask rose, or be fruity, citrusy, musky and spicy.
Best known among fans of making luxurious floral surprises, for example, 101 red roses or even 1001 roses, the Freedom variety (translated from English - freedom). Created by breeders a little over a decade and a half ago, today it is a sales leader in the floristic market not only in Europe, but also in other parts of the world.
The Dutch rose by Freedom is loved by florists for its noble shades (from bright burgundy-scarlet, pomegranate to rich maroon), the beauty of a velvet elongated bud, for long stems with practically no thorns, and for excellent stability in expressive thematic compositions. Another plus of large double flowers with scalloped petals is a light and very pleasant aroma.
Luxurious and fantastically beautiful blue rose of an unusual shade "Blue Moon". The variety was also bred in 2004 in Holland and very quickly became in demand all over the world.
Dutch roses "Aqua" are popular due to the widest color palette and excellent stability in bouquets. Especially beautiful is the large yellow rose, so reminiscent of a golden sun flower.
The Pink Floyd variety is chosen by aesthetes because of the beautiful shape of a glass of 35 petals. Bright pink, with a rather dense glass shape - these flowers look especially gorgeous in festive bouquets like "101 roses".
The incredibly elegant variety "Sweetness" is original with an unusual color of wavy petals. Delicate pink, almost white, classic rosebuds of this sophisticated variety surprise with the contrast of the bright border of each petal. The advantage of the Sweetness variety is that up to 4 beautiful buds can be found on one branch.
