Peony and peony rose - what is the difference and differences
26-07-2021
Peonies are an undoubted floral hit and trend of the last few seasons. Unfortunately, these plants have one important drawback. Thus, compositions of fresh flowers grown in local greenhouses are available to Ukrainians only three months a year (from the end of May to the end of July). Yes, the online bouquets store "Lepestki" will be able to present you also compositions from Dutch peonies. The latter are grown year-round. True, the price of such plants is very, very high. It is the latter fact that has made yet another popular flower lately - the so-called peony roses. How do they differ from, in fact, peonies? We will talk about this further.
The main difference
"Lepestki" is not only a flower shop in Kiev with an impeccable reputation, which offers inexpensive flower delivery. It is also a place where experienced, 110% knowledgeable florists work. The latter just shared with us information about the main differences between peonies and peony roses. And there are a lot of differences, as it turns out.
The fact is that peonies and peony roses are completely different flowers. The former belong to the Peony family, and the latter to Rosehips. Consequently, the smell, and the specificity of cultivation, and the peculiarities of selection and floristic work with these varieties of flowers are completely different. What unites them is only a slightly similar appearance. Which, however, for an ordinary consumer just seems to be the most important advantage, the most important criterion.
How did peony roses appear?
By themselves, peony roses appeared relatively recently - only in the fifties of the last century. They were invented by a certain farmer Austin (compositions of natural flowers of the same name variety, by the way, are very popular with consumers today - information was provided by the online bouquets store "Lepestki"). Such beautiful flowers have become available to consumers as a result of a hybrid mixture of tea and English roses. The result of such a floristic union was plants with lush buds and very bright, strong aromas. By the way, the resulting flowers looked much richer, luxurious and expensive in bouquets than their progenitors. Therefore, they immediately became a real hit and it was in this direction that a new branch of selective floristry began to develop.
What are English roses?
As we mentioned above, peony roses very quickly earned love and consumer acceptance, and therefore it is not at all surprising that the varieties of such plants are simply striking in their diversity. English roses (the second name for peony plants) are divided into varieties depending on the color. That is, varieties of similar plants with white, pink, cream, yellow petals have been bred (all of them are available for ordering in the Lepestki salon, where you will be pleasantly pleased with low-cost flower delivery). And this is not to mention the two-color buds (these are also offered by the flower shop in Kiev "Lepestki"). We will tell you about some curious such varieties later.
Extremely curious, for example, are the rosebuds with the intricate name Vuvuzela. The main highlight of these flowers is in the two-tone petals. To the center of the bud, they are yellow, and closer to the edges - a delicate pink shade.
If you need the maximum similarity with peonies, then pay attention to the Red Piano variety. In a semi-open state, these flowers are indistinguishable from peonies of bright, saturated red color. When the buds fully open, they look simply gorgeous and very voluminous, reaching 12 centimeters in diameter.
Luxurious pale pink buds with a cold undertone distinguish the Peony Pink variety. These extraordinary roses are also characterized by the maximum resemblance to a peony, but when fully opened, the bud is slightly smaller in diameter than that of the above version - up to 10 centimeters.
