Just five kilometers from Nice and fourteen from Monaco, in the small town of Villefranche, a short, but incredibly colorful holiday is held annually in early February - Combat Naval Fleuri. This event is a kind of continuation of the Battle of Flowers, which takes place on the Promenade des Anglais in Nice. Only in Villefranche, instead of flower platforms, boats decorated with bouquets of flowers are used, and accordingly the main actions unfold on the water near the ancient port of Sante.
< br /> On the embankment of the port near the water where the stands will be installed, on the fourth of February thousands of spectators will gather. At noon, three cannon volleys will usher in the start of Combat Naval Fleuri, and dozens of different boats decorated with fresh flowers will appear on the sea. Every year, more than 10 thousand flowers and bouquets are used in the Flower Fights in Villefranche. Flower boats sail in strict order before the audience and the jury, which evaluates the beauty and originality of the decoration. After the winner is selected and announced, the last part of the holiday begins. Boats again appear on the water, in which the creators of the best flower arrangements are sitting, often with their whole family, they swim to the shore and throw small bouquets of violets and carnations into the crowd of spectators. In the evening, a grand fireworks display is held in the port of Santo.
Villefranche is spread between Mount Mont Boron and Cape Cap Ferrat on the shore of the bay, which is considered to be one of the most beautiful in the whole Mediterranean coast. The city still retains its former appearance with multi-colored facades of one-story houses, a medieval fortress and ancient churches, and the mild climate and excellent beaches put Villefranche on a par with the most popular resorts of the Cote d´Azur.
